Intercultural Training – big challenge well done

Frankfurt Feb. 2016

Have you ever trained 35 different professional people from 30 countries a day long?

I did it in Feb. 2016 in a bank in Frankfurt. A big challenge to find a good topic and the right method to keep them busy for a day.
We choosed the topic IWRM-Integrated Water Resource Management. The SDGs and the Climate Agend 2030 will add aditional work to these project managers in the years to come. I introduced a role game, put them in small groups, used the environmental cards from DWA and used the visualisation to create a discussion among themselve. Later on they showed their results and I could add the German way how we do things our thinking.
In the afternoon we visited the Frankfurt Wastewater Treatment Plant. To see modern treatment and the oldest (1867) wastewater treatment showed clearly the development during the last centuaries.
I liked that job very much and it was one of my best trainings I ever did. Such a inhomogeneous group, a big challenge I managed well.

The Profile of the German Water Sector – Supply and Wastewater

profile-german-water19 years ago the John Briscoe from the Worldbank visited Germany  and wrote “The German water and sewerage sector: How well it works and what this means for developing countries,” Technical Paper of the Water and Sanitation Division, World Bank, 1995.

He found out, that the German Water Sector works well but is too expensice for the rest of the world. He travelled Germany and collected data from various scources. The GermanWater Sector was not prepared to the data ready and to provide an overview.

Few years later the German Ministry of Economy asked also for some data for the Water Sector. Benchmarking came up and to avoid further discussions with the goernment the “Profile of the German Water Sector” was born. Every 3-4 years the data are collected, translated and published. The next profile will come out end of March 2015.

The profile will show the main figures of the german water sector. You can download it from http://www.DWA.de. An english version will be available. It gives you a good overview about the latest figures and data. E.g. about 6000 Water Supply Utilities and 6500 Wastewater Utilities are serving the 80 Mio. population in Germany. All existing benchmarking projects are mentioned. Statistik, data and customer satisfaction.

New Training Broschure 2015 published

The new year 2015 starts and we published our new training brochure 2015. More than 300 seminars and conferences are available for the German Water Market. DWA is one of the big training institutes in Germany. Annually more than  35.000 participants join our programme.

What is new? Micropollutans, energy savings, biogas, health & safety are topics of big interest. We offer mainly wastewater subjects as well as water resource management topics.  Highflood protection, river training and legal issues are also in the programme.

For international water professionals we offer a “Young Water Professional Programme” during Water Berlin in March 2015. The programme is open for newcomers under 35 year of age and costs 1.300 € for one week in Berlin. We run this programme since 2001 once a year.

In 2016 we will start with a new “Senior Water Professional Programme” during IFAT Munich in May 2016.

For international customers we do offer tailor made trainings. The photo shows my colleague Roland (left) together with our trainer Michael and some participants from Brasil in October 2014 in Hennef. A successful “Biogas” training was completed.
