Water Technology – New Worldskills Skill needs explanation

Bonn, 17.8.2019

The new Worldskills Skill “Water Technology” needs more explanation to be understood. Most of the countries in the world do not have occupations in the water sector. At University the topic is known but in vocational education most countries do not have an occupation is this field.

In Germany we introduced the water occupation in 1984, updated it in 2002 and we are now preparing the next update. I am direct involved in this work – mainly for the wastewater sector.

I prepared a simple video with 12 pictures explaining the Water Supply System and the Wastewater System in an easy way to understand the main principles of this occupation.

I designed the pictures and my son (studies Art Www.JonasHeidebrecht.com) draw it on his computer.

If you like it forward it to schools and people who are interested.

Be a Water Technician.

45. Worldskills 22.-27.8.2019 – the event for TVET

Bonn, 14.8.2019

The German Team is soon on the way to Kazan, Russia. 60 countries will do the same. More than 1300 young professionals are now competing in 56 different disciplines. Germany will send 39 youngsters for 34 skills. That will be the biggest event ever.

Water Technology is now the first time an official skill #55 with 11 countries. I am looking forward to join the event and to see how the various skills progress. In 2017 in Abu Dhabi we had 5 countries in a test run.

I think that the new skill Water Technology will be seen from more and more countries.

In Germany we are just going to update the occupation profiles for these four environmental occupations (Water Supply, Wastewater, Solid Waste, Industry). The tasks in Kazan will show more “digital” future work as well.

If you want to know what we are doing in Germany to keep the water occupation “fresh & modern” see https://youtu.be/8tYv0OJ3Xms on my YouTube channel.

45. Worldskills 2019 in Kazan, Russia – new skill „Water Technology“ with 11 countries

Bonn, 13.8.2019

Next week I will go to Kazan, Russia to join the Worldskills event. In Water Technology we got 11 countries. In 2017 in Abu Dhabi we had 5 countries. This time we are an official skill. That is the first time and I am happy to see that. Since 2013 I am working on this project.

With the support of FESTO, Adiro, WorldskillsGermany and DWA we managed to do this.

Hilmar is a great expert from the City of Stuttgart. With Lukas from the City of Nürnberg we got a very good, motivated and smart competitor.

I am looking foreward to this event. Our new skill will be established and more countries will show interest and we will have a good challenge.

I wish Lukas and and Hilmar all the best. Thanks to Klaus Kronberger and his team for their efforts. Thanks to Festo, Dr. Imani and his team for the strong support.

This event will have an impact to the global water community and the people who are in education and training.
